Ukraine as the test for European solidarity

On 9 December 2014 was held a conference “Ukraine as the test for European solidarity” organised by the Polish Foundation Prof. Bronisław Geremek Centre, Network PL  (Association of Polish officials of international organisations), the Polish-Lithuanian Public Policy Forum, with the support of the Mission Ukraine to the EU in Brussels. The conference took place in the European Parliament under the patronage of the EP President Martin Schultz.

In a written message to the participants of the meeting, the European Parliament President Martin Schulz noted that in these important days the EU stays together with Ukraine, because "the EU can’t calmly observe the violation of the principles of international law." President of the EP called the events, which take place in Ukraine, "an unprecedented challenge for Europe" and expressed hope for cease-fire and sustainable peace.

Among the speakers and conference there were the following members of the European Parliament: R.Harms, P.Austrevicius, A.Plenkovic, former president of the European Parliament P.Cox, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on European integration I.Gerashchenko, Chairman of Majlis of the Crimean Tatar people R.Chubarov, archbishop of the Ukrainian orthodox church of Kyiv patriarchy Yevstratiy (Zoria), a group of MPs of Ukraine, representatives of political centers of the European Union, volunteer movements from Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Lithuania and Germany, Ukrainian and foreign media. The Conference was moderated by the following leading journalists: S. Schuster, Y.Kiselyov, N.Humenyuk (Hromadske TV). The Conference was devoted to the search of the way out of the situation in Ukraine in the context of Russian aggression, ways to overcome informational propaganda of the RF, carrying out the systemic reforms in Ukraine within the framework of the Association Agreement implementation.

The Ukrainian Day in the European Parliament continued with the opening of the exhibition "Donbas: War and Peace." The exhibition, prepared by Ukrainian reporters from the ATO area, shows the character of the Ukrainian nation in overcoming external challenges, mobilizing the Ukrainian society in fight for peace and freedom.
